Food & Nutrition

Good, locally-sourced food, with menus shaped around the needs of each person

At Inspire Neurocare, we understand the importance of good food. It’s about enjoying food that’s not only delicious and good for you, but that’s also right for each person.

Our expert team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians and Chefs work collaboratively with the people we support to create unrivalled mealtime menus.

Menus are devised around each person’s individual requirements, with dietary, cultural and religious requirements are all catered for. We also ensure that anyone who can cook for themselves, and those who are developing their skills in this area , are supported to cook their own meals.

Recognising that many people also have dietary requirements as a result of their condition or symptoms, we specialise in creating appetising menus for people requiring pureed, textured and liquid foods. Neurological disorders commonly cause difficulties in eating and drinking such as Dysphagia (chewing and swallowing problems). This can be compounded by other neurological disorders such as in difficulty speaking or having the ability to cough, and, associated problems with attention, language impairment or body control.

As part of their personalised care plan, each person's individual needs are regularly assessed and reviewed and the clinical team ensure that their bespoke requirements for dining and nutrition are supported.

Our unique interdisciplinary approach means that our clinical team can consistently work together to monitor the needs of our residents, ensuring that their care remains tailored to their changing needs at all time.

Our progressive model of care also means that our Life Skills Facilitators have received additional training to support residents enabling us to provide holistic support 24 hours a day.

Person-Centred Support

We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing experience at each mealtime, so people can receive optimal nutrition whilst also promoting their independence.

Our experienced Speech and Language Therapists, together with our Occupational Therapists, review and assess the individual needs of each person and create bespoke care plans that promote independent eating and drinking as much as possible.

Where necessary, we can adapt how food is served and provide adaptive cutlery and crockery deemed appropriate during assessment.

Our resident chefs and hospitality teams iwork closely with our clinical team to create varied and nutritious meals that cater for people’s unique dietary requirements and personal preferences.

Exceptional Care Experience

Our Life Skills Facilitators receive expert training, far beyond the normal provision, so they can provide person-centred support with eating and drinking.  The training is overseen by our Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists enable the care experience to be bespoke for each resident.  Life Skills Facilitators are under the guidance of our clinical team so that our residents receive holistic support 24 hours a day. This ensures that changing needs are spotted early and adaptations to care plans can be made swiftly, reducing the disruption to people’s dining experience.

Gold Standard of Care

The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the British Dietetics Association (BDA) have been in allegiance with an international research faculty to devise new guidelines on how to aid the consistent safe management of food and fluid intake for people with Dysphagia. This is called the International Dysphagia Diet Standardised Initiative (IDDSI).

All our services are in alignment with the IDDSI Levels ensuring all our residents have the safest foods and fluids for their individual abilities.
